I think of this as a gift to myself as I approach my thirtieth year of life. I read a lot, and people say that writing is a form of self-therapy, that it can help exorcise the demons of the past. I don’t know if I really need any exorcism. I seem to have made peace with what happened to me all those many years ago. At least that’s how I feel, most of the time.
You see, I used to be a refugee. I used to be the unwilling “comfort girl”, sex slave in my refugee camp. I’ve never told this story publicly. My friends and colleagues don’t know this, with one or two exceptions. And even with those few, I’ve never been as forthright as I intend to be with you, in our unbounded, totally honest, totally anonymous relationship.
